Prashant Tamang was born on 4 January 1983 in Darjeeling, West Bengal, in a Nepali-speaking Gorkha family. He came into prominence in 2007 when he won Indian Idol season 3, a major reality singing show in India. His soulful and soothing voice made him an overnight sensation across India and Nepal. Before joining the show, he was in the Kolkata Police as a constable after his father’s death. There he performed with the police orchestra while fulfilling his passion for music.

After he won Indian Idol, he released albums like Dhanyavaad and performed in numerous concerts, gaining even more popularity. He started his acting career in the Nepali industry with movies such as Gorkha Paltan in 2010, Angalo Yo Maya Ko in 2011, Nishani in 2014, Pardesi (2015), and Ye Maya Hanaima in 2016.
He even left an impact on the Indian industry after his role as sniper Daniel Acho in the popular web series Paatal Lok Season 2. As per the report, he was also seen in Battle of Galwan, a war movie featuring Salman Khan.
