Brooklyn Beckham, the eldest son of soccer legend Sir David Beckham and fashion designer Victoria Beckham, has publicly addressed longstanding rumours about a family feud, delivering an emotional statement accusing his parents of control over his life and not being so happy with his marriage to American actress Nicola Peltz Beckham.
In a lengthy post shared on his Instagram Stories, the 26-year-old said he was “standing up for himself for the first time in his life” and clarified that he no longer wants to reconcile with his parents. Brooklyn said he had tried for years to resolve the situation privately but decided to speak out after stories about his family “continued to go to the press.”
Allegations Against Parents
Brooklyn’s came out with a series of serious allegations that paint a picture of a strained relationship. He claimed his parents controlled public narratives about their family and treated “brand Beckham” as more important than genuine family connections.
According to Brooklyn, his parents “have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship” with Nicola Peltz since before their April 2022 wedding. He alleged that Victoria Beckham backed out of designing Nicola’s wedding dress at the last moment, forcing Nicola to find an alternative gown on short notice. He said his parents pressured and attempted to bribe him to sign away rights to his own name before the wedding which he refused. He claims it affected his earnings and his mental health. He even shared how he was humiliated at family events in front of family members telling him his wife was “not blood” and “not family”, and his mother made him feel uncomfortable on his planned first dance at the reception.
He rejected damaging narratives suggesting Nicola controls him, saying “The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards.” Brooklyn said the periods since distancing himself from his family have brought him “peace and relief” after years of “overwhelming anxiety.”
Brooklyn emphasised that both he and Nicola now seek “peace, privacy and happiness” for themselves and their future family, without the influence of public image or media interruptions.
Family Milestones and Estrangement
The speculations of a rift have been going on for several years and have impacted attendance at key family events. Brooklyn said he and Nicola missed David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebrations after attempts to spend time privately with him were denied unless Nicola was excluded.
Insiders have previously suggested that the feud dates back to tensions arising around wedding plans, including disagreements over fashion and public expectations, long before this latest public address.
