The long-running show, American Idol has dedicated its 2026 Season 24 to Robin Kaye, a respected music supervisor who was tragically killed in 2025. At the very start of the season’s premiere episode, the show displayed a tribute message in her honour as the new season began.

Robin Kaye started working for American Idol 2009. Her work was crucial behind the scenes, she was responsible for securing the rights and licences for the songs that contestants performed on the show. Over more than a decade with the show, she helped clear music for hundreds of episodes and became a trusted and much-loved part of the Idol family.

In July 2025, Kaye and her husband, Tom DeLuca, were found shot to death in their home in Encino, California. A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with their deaths, but later the court found him mentally unfit to stand trial, and he was ordered to be committed to a state hospital. The killings were widely described at the time as a senseless tragedy that shocked colleagues, contestants and fans.
