Mayasabha – The Hall of Illusion: Plot, Cast, Box Office Performance, & Review

Bollywood’s one of the most versatile actors, Jaaved Jaaferi was labelled as the strength of the movie. He played the role of a paranoid obsessed and mad man obsessed over treasure within the wall. Mohammad Samad played Vasu and also gave a memorable performance in the role of being torn between loyalty and escape. The other two, Veena and Deepak’s energy and complexity draw more mystery and intensity.

Mayasabha uses its setting and characters as symbols and metaphors, the rotten mirror is a symbol of broken promises, dreams, obsession and illusion. As the story proceeds, it will keep us on the edge due to the psychological tension between characters, a reflection of broken trust.

Audience and Critical Response

Many viewers praised the dark tone of the movie, the visuals and the mood. The old, broken theatre with fog and yellow lights gives a sense of mystery and tension. The cinematography and production design were praised. Despite this, critics didn’t hold back when they highlighted how the film felt repetitive and slow at some points, with repetitive dialogue and heavy tactics to impress a mainstream audience.

If you are someone who prefers emotions and action, this is not for you, the movie focuses more on ideas, themes and mood. Because of this, traditional audiences may enjoy it more than the casual audiences.

Box Office and Audience Rating

The film opened with a modest earning of 12 Lakh and faced stiff competition from mainstream media’s bigger releases. Audience reactions were different, yet they gave an 8.1/10 rating on IMDb and 9.1 on bookmyshow. Many praised the psychology and darkness behind it, while others find the pacing and tone challenging.

Where to Watch

The movie is currently in theatres in selected cities, including Indore and other urban centres, but limited screening and competition from mainstream films have impacted the visibility of the movie.
