Mrunal Thakur was born on 1 August 1992 in Dhule, Maharashtra. She is a prominent Indian actress who has worked across Hindi, Telugu and Marathi television and cinema. She first gained recognition for her role as Bulbul Arora in the popular television show Kumkum Bhagya, where she also won an ITA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
Entry into Acting
Mrunal was in KC College when she landed a lead role as Gauri Bhosle in the series Mujhse Kuchh Kehti… Yeh Khamoshiyaan, alongside Mohit Sehgal, aired from 2012 to 2013. Later she appeared in Kumkum Bhagya but left the show in 2016.
After leaving the show, she also appeared as a Contestant on Box Cricket League 1 in 2014 and Later in Nach Baliye 7 in 2015. In 2016, she danced in a special episode of Saubhagyalakshmi and made a guest appearance in other shows before she retired from the television industry.
Film Career & Breakthrough

Thakur made her film debut in Marathi cinema with Hello Nandan in 2014, followed by roles in Vitti Dandu and Surajya. She entered the Hindi film industry with the international drama Love Sonia in 2018, where she played the title role in a story about global human trafficking. Her Bollywood breakthrough came with her role in Super 30 in 2019 opposite Hrithik Roshan and in Batla House in 2019 opposite John Abraham, both of which became commercial hits.
She appeared in Amazon Prime Video’s Toofaan in 2021 and Netflix’s Dhamaka in 2021 grabbing audience into her fandom.
Success in Telugu Cinema
In 2022, Thakur made a significant impact in Telugu cinema with Sita Ramam, opposite Dulquer Salmaan, a role that won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, Telugu, and cemented her popularity in South Indian film circles.
She followed this with Hi Nanna (2023) alongside Nani, another box-office success that won her additional awards at the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA).
In 2024–25, she worked on Hindi and Telugu projects, including the third Telugu film The Family Star with Vijay Deverakonda and a Hindi role in Son of Sardaar 2 opposite Ajay Devgn. She also filmed Dacoit: A Love Story (scheduled for 2026), showcasing her versatility across genres.
Mrunal is known for her thoughtful choice of roles and a grounded public image. She ranked in Eastern Eye’s Top 30 under 30 Global Asian Stars in 2021 and remains one of the most dynamic actresses of her generation in Indian cinema.
