Trust Shattered: Husband Murdered on Honeymoon, Wife and Lover Charged in Shocking Plot

Spread the love

In a case that has both devastated families and shocked the nation, police have confirmed the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. Authorities say the killer wasn’t a stranger or a robber—it was a conspiracy involving Raja’s own wife and her secret lover, who went by the false name “Sanjay Verma.”

From Wedding Vows to a Deadly Plot

On May 11, Raja married Sonam in a traditional ceremony in Madhya Pradesh. Thirteen days later, they were trekking in the hills of Cherrapunji, a destination famed for its breathtaking waterfalls and ancient root bridges. The couple checked into a homestay in Nongriat on May 22. On May 23, Raja was last seen alive.

His body was discovered on June 2 in a gorge, battered and decomposing. Investigators at first suspected a tragic fall. But subtle clues and the persistence of Raja’s family revealed a darker truth.

A Lover in Disguise

Police found Sonam had made numerous calls before and during the trip to a man listed as “Sanjay Verma.” The number belonged not to a friend or family member, but to Raj Kushwaha—Sonam’s lover, who worked in her brother’s business.

Their relationship had continued in secret even after the marriage. What’s more disturbing: police claim the couple used the honeymoon as a cover for a murder planned months in advance.

The Execution of a Sinister Plan

According to witness reports, three Hindi-speaking men joined Sonam and Raja on their trek. These men were hired assassins, brought in by Raj. Together, on May 23, they allegedly struck Raja with a blunt weapon and pushed him into the gorge.

A machete with traces of Raja’s blood was recovered. Sonam’s shirt—matching one seen in CCTV footage the day before the murder—was also found near the scene.

Escape, Arrest, and Confession

Sonam fled the state and was found on June 9 in Uttar Pradesh. She recorded a video claiming she was being framed, but police say she later confessed to witnessing the murder and playing an active role in its orchestration.

Raj and the three hired killers—Vishal, Akash, and Anand—were arrested in Madhya Pradesh. Their confessions reportedly corroborate Sonam’s involvement and provide a full timeline of the murder.

Justice Sought by a Grieving Family

Raja’s family is heartbroken. “He believed in love. He believed in her. And she planned his murder with her lover,” his sister said.

Public outrage has been intense, with social media flooded with demands for swift justice. Legal experts suggest that given the strength of the evidence, including digital records, witness accounts, and confessions, the prosecution’s case is exceptionally strong.

Trial Looms

The five accused have been moved to judicial custody in Shillong. A Special Investigation Team is preparing the final charge sheet. The trial is expected to begin soon, and the country will be watching.

What began as a celebration of new beginnings now stands as one of the most chilling spousal betrayal cases in India’s recent history—a tragic testament to how trust, once broken, can turn fatal.
