Mumbai: Even before audiences could decide whether Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri is a love story or a patience test, the film’s unusually long title had already become a punchline. Social media users were quick to point out that by the time one finishes reading the name, the interval could have started.

The film, backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and starring Kartik Aaryan, has found itself in the middle of online trolling that seems almost as elaborate as its title. A major point of criticism has been its use and reinterpretation of old Bollywood songs, with many users accusing the makers of “ruining classics for nostalgia clicks.”

The word “ragebait” has been generously thrown around, suggesting the film exists less to tell a story and more to trigger reactions.Whether intentional or accidental, Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri has achieved something undeniable: sustained attention. Unfortunately for the makers, much of it has come wrapped in sarcasm, memes, and the internet’s favourite sport—trolling first, watching later.

Social media criticism intensified after the release of its recreated songs, particularly “Saat Samundar Paar Main Tere”, a 90s classic that many viewers believe should have been left untouched. Netizens have accused the makers of diluting the original song’s charm in the name of nostalgia marketing, calling the remake “unnecessary” and “creatively bankrupt.”
