South Indian star Vijay Deverakonda has announced the official title of his much-anticipated new movie, previously known as VD14, and shared a first glimpse that has quickly gone viral online. The film is now officially titled Ranabaali and is set to release on September 11, 2026, as a large-scale pan-India period action drama. Fans are excited after the title and visuals were revealed on social media by Vijay himself on Republic Day, marking a major moment for one of 2026’s most talked-about projects.
The short clip and title reveal show Vijay in a fierce avatar as the character Ranabaali, a warrior figure from a largely untold chapter of 19th-century Indian history. In the glimpse, Vijay is seen riding a horse and dragging a British officer behind him, while Rashmika Mandanna appears as the female lead in a powerful role. Hollywood actor Arnold Vosloo, known for his work in The Mummy films, plays the British antagonist. The visuals suggest the film will focus on rebellion and resistance against colonial oppression.
As the glimpse spread across social media, some wondered whether the clip was created using artificial intelligence because of its quality. However, director Rahul Sankrityan made it clear that the video was not made with AI. He stated that every frame was created using traditional techniques and that it took months of work by the film’s creative team to produce the high-quality promotional trailer. Fans praised the director and team for their attention to detail and high quality in the video.

Ranabaali is being produced by Mythri Movie Makers in collaboration with T-Series, and the music is composed by the celebrated duo Ajay–Atul. The story is said to be inspired by historical events that took place in pre-Independence India between 1854 and 1878 which is said to be omitted by mainstream history. Although the film is not a biopic of real individuals, but a reconstruction through oral histories and suppressed records from that period.
The project marks another collaboration between Vijay and director Rahul Sankrityan after their earlier hit Taxiwala. The movie is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Telugu films of the year and a major release in languages including Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.
