Delhi-NCR residents found themselves shaken early on February 17, 2025, when a 4.0 magnitude earthquake disrupted their morning routines. The tremors were felt across a wide area, from central Delhi to the outskirts of Ghaziabad and Greater Noida.
Reports indicated that many individuals were still in bed when the earthquake hit, causing them to quickly evacuate their homes. “My whole bed shook, and I could hear the walls creaking,” said Anil Sharma, a resident of Greater Noida. “It was a terrifying experience.”
While the earthquake caused significant anxiety, Delhi’s emergency services were quick to respond. Local authorities were seen inspecting vulnerable buildings and ensuring the safety of the people. Earthquake safety protocols were put into place immediately, with authorities advising people to stay away from damaged structures and to take shelter in open spaces in case of aftershocks.
Although this earthquake is classified as mild, experts cautioned that earthquakes of this magnitude can still cause serious consequences in densely populated urban areas.
