Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar recently made a poignant remark during a public event, stating that even with the support of higher powers, Bengaluru’s transformation cannot occur overnight. His comment came in the wake of growing discontent among citizens about the city’s infrastructure issues, particularly with regard to traffic, water supply, and waste management.

Shivakumar’s statement reflected the challenges faced by the state government in dealing with the urbanization of Bengaluru, which has been described as one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. Despite the city’s rapid growth in the IT sector, Bengaluru’s infrastructure has often been criticized for lagging behind. This has led to traffic congestion, air pollution, and an insufficient supply of basic civic amenities.

In response to these concerns, Shivakumar assured the public that the government is fully aware of these issues and is working tirelessly to bring about necessary changes. However, he added that such issues do not have quick solutions. From constructing new flyovers to the gradual expansion of metro services, the government is focused on long-term improvements.

The Deputy Chief Minister also pointed out the importance of citizen participation in Bengaluru’s growth. He emphasized that for the city to flourish, both the government and its residents must work in tandem, implementing sustainable solutions that can stand the test of time.
